Many patients ask us “When is the right age to start getting anti-wrinkle injections?”
There is no right age, but most commonly patients commence getting anti-wrinkle injections in their late twenties to early thirties.
In younger patients, we often use a treatment called micro-tox/baby-tox that involves several injections of small amounts of neurotoxin (anti-wrinkle injections). Micro-tox is great for young patients who do not yet have static wrinkles, and want to prevent getting deep wrinkles and delay the signs of ageing. Micro-tox, when used every 3-6 months, can prevent static lines and deep wrinkles, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and create a smooth appearance to the skin.
Because low doses are used, patients do not experience a ‘frozen’ look and are able to continue to use normal facial expressions.
Typically, micro-tox patients receive anti-wrinkle injections on the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet.
Dr Alex will discuss your aesthetic goals with you to determine a personalised treatment plan.
The treatment area will be cleaned using alcohol and chlorhexidine. Depending on the treatment area, numbing cream may be applied. Happy gas is available to our patients to make them as comfortable as possible, but this is normally not needed for anti-wrinkle injections. Dr Alex will inject the anti-wrinkle injections using a very fine needle. Gauze will be applied with pressure. Generally between 2 and 7 injection sites will be used, depending on the treatment area.
Dr Alex will continue to check-in with you during the procedure to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. Most patients report little or no discomfort or pain during the anti-wrinkle injections procedure.
We always provide pain relief to our patients. We use a combination numbing cream, local anaesthetic injections, and nitrous oxide gas (happy gas). The pain relief used depends on the treatment, the area being treated, and the patients’ individual needs and preferences. Your comfort will always be prioritised by Dr Alex. Most patients experience no or very little pain during the anti-wrinkle injections procedure. Anti-wrinkle injections are considered much less painful than other injectable treatments, such as dermal fillers.
We advise our patients to avoid wearing makeup for 4 hours after treatment, avoid strenuous exercise on the day of treatment, do not massage or rub your face for 4 hours after treatment, and stay away from saunas, spas, and hot yoga for 48-hours post treatment.
In some cases bruising may occur around the treatment area, that can last up to one week. We provide our patients with a topical cream that is very effective in reducing bruising.
Anti-wrinkle injections do not take effect immediately and it generally takes about 2 weeks to see the full effect. Dr Alex will ask you to come back for a review around this time to ensure you are happy with the results and provide top-ups if needed.
In the event of any complications or concerns after the procedure, even after hours, Dr Alex will be available to discuss your concerns and provide advice, and offers a complimentary review if needed.
